Designing Dubai as a Global City
This visual essay takes readers on a tour of the central structures that have made Dubai famous. The essay isn't an architectural tour or a conventional travelogue, but an attempt to discover the thought patterns that give these structures meaning. The photographer's eye is drawn toward the words, people, and ephemeral signs that build up a conceptual frame for these sites. As a result this visual essay doesn't stop at the Dubai that everyone sees on their Instagram feed or while browsing Google Earth, but approaches the city as it's experienced by a physical person. This is the first of three visual essays on Dubai.
