The Ark Encounter cost more than $100 million to build, making it an expensive roadside attraction. It aims to be more than a roadside attraction as it propagates the notion that the biblical Flood was an actual event and Noah a historical person. As families and church groups make their way through the exhibits they learn little about science, but gain a powerful metaphor for understanding their lives in contemporary America. Standing in the Ark they become part of the few who will be saved from God’s coming judgment on a sinful society. This essay traces the experience of walking through the Ark Encounter as well as the nearby Creation Museum.
